The Gold Card - Everything We Know So Far

Trump Gold Card immigration how to get 1 million

President Trump issued Executive Order 14351, "The Gold Card," creating a new and expedited immigration process for people or companies that make an unrestricted gift to the United States government.

This new process requires a gift of:

  • $1 million for an individual donating on his or her behalf

  • $2 million for a corporation or similar entity donating on behalf of an individual

The gift will be treated as evidence of the applicant's eligibility under the EB-1 or EB-2 National Interest Waiver Categories.

The general process to apply for the Gold Card will be:

  1. Gift intake of $1 million or $2 million by the Department of Commerce and

  2. Consular Processing of Immigrant Visa Application by the State Department or Adjustment of Status Applications filed with USCIS

Beyond the git itself, there will also be an additional processing fee.

It's also important to note that where corporations make a $2 million contribution, they will be allowed to transfer the contribution from one employee to another without paying a new fee.

While the exact procedure, forms, and filing fees have not been published, the Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Homeland Security will take necessary steps to implement this program within 90 days of the September 19th executive order. So, by the end of 2025 people should be able to apply for the Gold Card.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Trump Gold Card?

    • The Trump Gold Card is a visa based upon an individual’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States. To apply, an applicant must pay a nonrefundable processing fee. Once an applicant’s processing fee is received, the process for visa adjudication will take place, assuming applicants submit additional documents in a timely manner. If approved, an individual must make a gift of $1 million, which has been determined to provide sufficient evidence that the individual will substantially benefit the United States.

  2. What is meant by the “Trump Corporate Gold Card?”

    • The Trump Corporate Gold Card is issued to a corporate sponsor for one or more of the sponsor’s employees. To apply, the corporate sponsor must pay a nonrefundable processing fee per employee. Corporate sponsors may apply for multiple employees at once. A $2 million per employee gift upon completion of the employee’s vetting is evidence that the employee will substantially benefit the United States. The advantage of the Trump Corporate Gold Card is that corporate sponsors may cease sponsoring one employee and use the gift contribution tied to the prior application as a basis for sponsoring a new employee without a new $2 million gift. The Trump Corporate Gold Card is subject to a small annual maintenance fee and a transfer fee.

  3. What makes someone qualified for the Trump Gold Card program?

    • In addition to providing the gift, applicants must be eligible for lawful permanent resident status, admissible to the United States, and a visa must be available.

  4. What legal classification would I have as a Trump Gold Card holder?

    • When approved for the Gold Card, an applicant receives lawful permanent resident status as an EB-1 or EB-2 visa holder.

  5. What are the tax implications under the Trump Gold Card Program?

    • Applicants will be treated similarly to other permanent residents and citizens.

  6. Can Trump Gold Card status be revoked?

    • The Trump Gold Card is a visa; therefore, national security and other risks are a basis for revocation.

  7. I’ve heard of the Gold Card…but what is the Trump Platinum Card?

    • The Trump Platinum Card will allow individual applicants to reside in the United States for up to 270 days per year without being subject to tax on non-U.S. income. The Trump Platinum Card has not been released yet. Interested applicants should join the waitlist now, as they will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
